Back in the day, brand presence was just a good logo, maybe a tidy shopfront, and a decent Yellow Pages ad.

Now, it’s your entire digital footprint that counts - every mention, every review, every stray comment on Reddit. That’s how people size you up when they’re researching.

But these days, people aren’t the only ones doing the digging.

AI tools like ChatGPT and Gemini are scanning those same reviews, directories, and socials, and then telling your potential customers who they think is the best fit.

Your brand presence isn’t just being judged by humans now, it’s being judged by machines too. And it’s not niche anymore as 52% of adults now use LLMs as part of their daily lives.

The big question is: when AI starts piecing together your online reputation, does your brand presence show you as the go-to expert?

AI Tools Are the New Word of Mouth

AI is like the digital version of word-of-mouth. Instead of asking a mate, people are asking AI:

  • “Who’s the best plumber near me?”
  • “Which accountant helps small businesses with tax planning?”
  • “Where can I find a reliable physio for sports injuries?”

Plenty of people are already using AI search this way.

A 2025 survey found 71.5% of people have used AI tools for search, with about 14% doing it daily.

Which means when someone asks AI for a recommendation, it’s your brand presence that gets weighed up in the answer.

Don’t Just Optimise for Google

Most business owners think ranking on Google is the end game. It’s not. Search visibility still matters, but AI tools are pulling from much more than that. They scan:

  • Review sites (Yelp, Trustpilot, industry-specific ones)
  • Directory listings
  • Social profiles
  • Public conversations

So if your presence is strong in Google but weak or inconsistent elsewhere, AI sees a fragmented picture of your brand.

And while you’re patching those gaps, your competitors are already adapting. Globally, 72% of companies are now using AI in at least one business function.

Which means AI tools have plenty of data to pull about them. But if your brand presence isn’t out there, you simply won’t show up.

Make Your Brand Presence Crystal Clear

If your online messaging just says “we do plumbing” or “we’re accountants”, that’s not enough. AI tools want the specifics.

  • Are you the plumber who specialises in hot water systems?
  • The accountant who helps tradies nail their tax planning?
  • The physio who works with sports injuries

The clearer you are about who you serve and what you do best, the easier it is for AI to recommend you.

And here’s the bonus: when you highlight the type of work or clients you actually want more of, you’ll attract them.

The right clients lead to better reviews, which strengthens your brand authority, and that cycle feeds directly into your AI search visibility

Prove It in Public

One way to strengthen your brand presence is to show up in the places where people are already asking questions — and add value.

That means:

  • Jumping into LinkedIn discussions in your industry
  • Sharing useful answers in Reddit threads
  • Commenting on public Facebook posts or groups
  • Contributing to niche forums or community boards

The goal isn’t to pitch; it’s to be seen solving problems. That builds two things at once:

  • Trust with real people (they see you know your stuff)
  • Signals for AI (public conversations can be picked up, referenced, or even quoted in search results)

Think of it like digital networking. In the past, you might build authority by speaking at a local event or sponsoring a footy club.

Today, it’s about leaving helpful footprints in public online spaces that both humans and AI can find.

Is Your Brand Presence Pulling Its Weight?

Ask yourself:

  • Is your message consistent across all platforms?
  • Do your reviews back up the story you want told?
  • Are you showing up in multiple places, not just your website?
  • Do you look like the expert you actually are?

If you answered “not really” to any of those, your brand presence could use a tune-up.

We can help you sharpen it so you’re not only standing out to people, but also getting picked up by AI search.
