Wordpress Security Maintenance Checks

We maintain websites and keep it secure—it’s what we do. It’s one of the core pillars of our entire service.

Every single website we take care of goes through rigorous security maintenance checks so if you’re under one of our plans, you can be sure your website is safe.

We check your site the moment you move into our service.

We perform our first security maintenance check over your website straight after you've signed up and your site is moved onto our servers.

What’s our process in checking your website?
  1. We give the main pages a thorough lookover.
  2. This gives us a point of reference on how the elements of the pages are supposed to display.

  1.  We run a manual backup of your site.
  2. An up-to-date copy of your site will allow us to restore your site to exactly how it was in case we run into any problem during the course of the maintenance check.

  1. As precaution, we set up three layers of automated backups.
  2. Years of experience taught us that backups can fail. So we made it a part of our service to set up three layers of automated backups which go to different locations. Some of them are database backups while some are full-site backups.

  1. All the plugins and theme files are sifted through.
  2. Plugins and theme files that haven’t been updated can cause security vulnerabilities. Those that pose as a security threat are patched immediately while routine updates are done on the scheduled maintenance date.

  1. Not all plugin updates work well with all websites, so...
  2. There are websites that are sensitive to certain plugin updates. In this case, we take note of it and we do the updates on a staging copy first before we touch the live site.

  1. Abandoned plugins are replaced.
  2. There are times when plugins are no longer supported by the developers who initially created it. Or it has been abandoned or removed from the WordPress repository.

When this happens, we decide the most appropriate replacement for that plugin which in some cases, might be a paid premium license.

  1. Broken links are also checked.
  2. We comb the site for broken links and other things that could potentially cause issues.

  1. We run a malware scan.
  2. We make sure your website is clean by manually running a malware scan.

  1. We perform our final checks.
  2. We will then purge all the cache copies of your website before running a final check over the main pages we checked in the beginning. This is to make sure all the updates we did to the software aren’t affecting the way your site is displaying and behaving.

  1.  We send you a report.
  2. We’ll put together a report so you can get an overview of how your site is performing and what work was done on it over the past month.

Maintenance and security checks—it’s a regular thing

We do all these on a regular basis: once a month for Velocity and Standard clients and once every quarter for those under the Basic Plan.
