Secure Your Site With Long Passwords

Security is a critical part of running a website. You should keep it safe from hackers the same way you keep your house safe from burglars.

Too many website owners don’t care enough to secure their sites thinking their business is too small to be targeted or they probably just don’t know how.

Long passwords are much harder to crack than short, complex ones.

One of the best ways to secure your site is to use passwords—long ones.

While complex passwords (adding special characters instead of using just letters and numbers) are better than using your birth date, last name or 12345678, a simple but long password is much harder to crack than short, complex ones.

The problem is complex passwords are hard to remember. The key to remembering a long password is to not use a password but a passphrase or sentence. Something that makes sense. Something like “I stay up late to watch cute cat videos!” That is definitely easier to remember than LmG525%>/wt&8L}.

Your password would be harder to crack though if you can pair length and complexity together.

Use a password app to store all your passwords.

You would be using passwords to secure not just your website, but your hosting, email, social media accounts, bank accounts, etc.

And if we’re honest, it would be hard to remember which password goes to what site. So the tendency is to use just one password for all your accounts. The problem is one brute-force attack and hackers can gain access to everything you have.

We recommend you use a password app like Lastpass or RoboForm to store and manage all your passwords. This way you can log in to all your accounts using just the app.

Change your password regularly.

Hackers may not be able to gain access to your account, but that doesn’t mean they will stop trying.

Changing your password regularly or each time, if you can, reduces the risk of being hacked. Hackers do get into apps from time to time and it’s best to stay ahead of that.
